Recap: Miami vs. Washington

Ed Lucas beat out a potential inning-ending double-play grounder to score Adeiny Hechavarria from third in the bottom of the 10th to cap a Miami Marlins' 2-1 comeback victory against the Washington Nationals.

Steve Cishek (3-4) was credited with the win for the Marlins. The right-hander pitched his way out of the 10th inning after putting runners on second and third with one out.

The Marlins loaded the bases on Craig Stammen (4-4) in the bottom half. Hechavarria grounded to third and reached second base on a throwing error by Nats third baseman Chad Tracy. Jeff Mathis then walked and Placido Polanco sacrificed the runners over to second and third. Stammen intentionally walked Justin Ruggiano to load the bases in hopes of turning a double play.

Lucas hit a grounder to Washington second baseman Steve Lombardozzi who got the runner out at second, but could not throw out the speedy Lucas out at first as Hechavarria crossed home plate to win the game.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run to left field off closer Rafael Soriano in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at one a piece. It was Soriano's first blown save since May 21 against the San Francisco Giants.

Dan Haren pitched six strong innings in his best outing of the season. The right-hander lost seven consecutive decisions in his last nine starts, but surrendered three hits with one walk, while striking out seven batters in a no-decision.

Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-5 for the Nationals, who only have one victory six games into this seven-game road trip.

All-Star Jose Fernandez started the game for the Marlins. The right-hander gave up one run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. The only run he allowed in six innings of work came in the top of the fourth inning when a Jayson Werth sacrifice fly scored Bryce Harper.

Harper started off the inning by drawing a walk. Adam LaRoche singled to left moving Harper over to third base, and Werth hit a ball to center. The throw came home to Miami catcher Mathis, but Harper ran over him at the plate making the ball fly past his glove.

The Nationals threatened in the top of the 10th. but failed to convert with two runners in scoring position. Cishek struck out Scott Hairston and Zimmerman to end the inning.

Fear Keeping Employees From Speaking Up at Work

If you're losing sleep worrying about your job security, you're not alone.

A new study from the University of Phoenix revealed that more than 60 percent of working adults worry about losing their jobs in the current economic climate. Specifically, one in five workers thinks about it at least once a week, while nearly 10 percent stress about it at least once a day.

Workers' concerns about how the state of the economy is affecting their job status may be preventing them from realizing their full potential. The study found that 34 percent of employees whose performance has been affected by the current economic climate are less likely to disagree or speak up about issues concerning them, and the same percentage of workers said they have avoided looking for a new job.

[11 Resume Myths Busted: Realities Revealed]

In addition, more than a quarter of the workers surveyed have not sought a promotion, 24 percent are more competitive with co-workers and 15 percent are less inclined to bring up out-of-the-box ideas.

While employees should be doing more to position themselves as company leaders during rough economic times, many are holding back, said Sam Sanders, college chairman for the University of Phoenix School of Business.

"Individuals may feel it is best to maintain the status quo and not draw too much attention to themselves, but this can send the wrong message and affect the individual's personal career growth," Sanders said. ?"Those who understand the big picture and how their own skill sets help their companies achieve goals should have more confidence and can have an advantage in the workplace."

Sanders offers several tips to help employees overcome the fear of speaking up at the office:

  • Be knowledgeable and see the big picture: Particularly in a challenging economic environment, it is important to understand the various factors that are contributing to an organization's success and challenges. Workers should try to be a go-to expert in their area and demonstrate that they understand how these activities fit into the larger organization's goals.
  • Be a problem solver, not just a problem identifier: Organizations value critical thinking, but in uncertain times, it can be tempting to look to others for solutions. Focus on the results and the solutions. Employees need to demonstrate that they have done their homework by making strong points when recommending ideas.
  • Continue to grow skills: Turn fear into confidence by understanding what skills the company needs and pushing to learn or grow these skills. Workers must always be looking for ways to enhance their skill set and tie those skills to the organization's priorities.
  • Be entrepreneurial in your own career: Being an entrepreneur isn't just about starting a business; it's about looking for and seizing opportunity. This can mean finding new revenue streams, extending into new categories or improving a process. It also applies to each worker's own career. Pursue learning opportunities, volunteer for new assignments or tackle a project from a different perspective.

The study was based on surveys of more than 1,600 U.S. full-time, part-time or self-employed workers ages 18 and older.

MLS: Former Union captain Califf announces retirement

The math hadn?t added up for a while. Danny Califf had fallen out of favor with current club Toronto FC while the team he once captained was in desperate need of defensive help.

Friday, the reasons became clearer.

Califf, an original member of the Philadelphia Union and once the club?s captain, announced his retirement from professional soccer Friday. The 33-year-old, who played parts of three seasons with the Union before landing in Toronto, cited a desire to spend time with his growing family as much as nagging back and knee injuries that have limited him this season. He?ll continue with the club as a scout.

?Today, I am announcing my retirement from soccer. It is a very emotional day for me,? Califf said in a statement on Toronto?s web site. He also penned a personal letter to fans.

?My family has moved around the world to watch me play the sport I love. Now, I get to watch my three kids play the same sport that has given me so much. Thanks to my family and friends for their love and support. Also to my teammates, and to my fans, the people who really make playing worth it.?

Califf parlayed success in MLS with the Los Angeles Galaxy from 2000-04 to 23 caps with the U.S. men?s national team and a move to Europe. He captained Danish club Alaborg to a league title in his two seasons and also spent a season with Midtjylland before returning stateside.

In two-plus seasons, Califf made 65 appearances with the Union, donning the armband for the club. He was unceremoniously dealt to Chivas USA in early 2012, one of the final acts of outgoing manager Peter Nowak.

Califf was left unprotected in the re-entry draft by Chivas and landed in Toronto with the first pick. He was denied a return to Philly when the Reds came to town April 13, but he received a pre-game standing ovation as a member of the bench. Califf was limited to just four games this season.

Monsters University Schools Competition from Top of Weekend Box Office

For the first time in a long time, each of the top five movies out this weekend made over $20 million each, bringing the domestic box office gross to $180 million (albeit down 11 percent from a year ago), according to Deadline. Leading the way was family favorite Monsters University, which topped the box office for the second week in a row, though it's likely to fall when Dreamworks?s Despicable Me 2 comes out July 3. In its opening weekend, The Heat?and all its threats pulled in a weekend total of $40 million and and settled into second place second place, hopefully proving to studios once and for all that it's worth it to do more female buddy comedies. Fellow newcomer?White House Down?raked in $26 million and landed in fourth place. For third place, Brad Pitt?s zombie thriller World War Z continued to beat its bad buzz?in its second week out at?just under $30 million. Meanwhile?Man of Steel rounded of the box office with a domestic weekend total of $20.5 million and a worldwide total of $520.4 million to date. If this weekend is any indicator, movie execs worried this week's holiday traffic can rest easy.

How to sign out of the new Skype 4.0 for Android

Skype

Skype has done fine work with its new Version 4.0 on Android, bringing about some badly needed performance improvements as well as a redesign. But in doing so, it's buried the sign-out button, as well as the settings — two things that absolutely need to be in the top level of the user interface.

Here's how to get to them:
