'American Idol' Alum Haley Reinhart Impressed By Jessica Sanchez

'When I saw Jessica Sanchez I knew she was a force to be reckoned with,' Reinhart tells MTV News.

On last week's episode of "American Idol," season 10's third-place finisher, Haley Reinhart, returned to the "Idol" stage and quickly reminded everyone why she got as far as she did in the competition. The sultry singer gave a rousing performance of her new song "Free," the first single off her debut album, Listen Up!, out May 22.

"It was a family reunion in many ways," Reinhart told MTV News on Wednesday of returning to the show. "I felt great about doing my own thing onstage. It just shows how much hard work does pay off. This is it. 'American Idol' got me here ... this is what I worked for."

Reinhart set herself apart from the other contestants last season with her distinctive voice and bluesy sound, and she credits her individuality as the key to her success. During her return to "Idol," Reinhart shared that advice with this season's finalists.

"I got to meet up with them for a little bit. I let them know: 'You're doing a great job showing who you are,' " Reinhart said. "I think they really were in tune what was happening last season, everybody found their lane. I fought for who I was and I'm like, 'Stick with your gut and listen to all these different opinions, but take what you need and go from there.' "

Looking back at her time on "Idol," Reinhart can identify with the struggles some of the contestants are having with song choices and judges' remarks, especially during the early stages of the competition.

"In the beginning especially, I was doing all these different kinds of genres because that's who I am, and I think they were a little confused. I added soul to everything and that was my thing. If I could switch it up, make it my own by putting a bluesy spin on it ... that was me," Reinhart said. "You can't do your exact style song every single week. You just gotta keep going with the flow and find your niche."

So who has impressed Reinhart so far this season? "I caught it a lot in the beginning especially, and right when I saw Jessica Sanchez, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with," Reinhart revealed. "She's got it going on. So good luck to her and the rest of them — they have great voices."

How Direct Response Marketing Works

In the past, marketing was mostly about getting people into the stores to buy your products. This approach forced a company trying to sell its products to deal with one or more intermediaries, resulting in higher prices for their customers and/or a reduced profit margin. Some retailers bypassed this problem by using early versions of direct response marketing, such as flyers, mailers and printed catalogs. These allowed customers to purchase the product directly. In recent decades, many businesses have turned to more advanced forms of this same approach. If you would like to do this with your business, there are a number of things to consider.

The Techniques

Regardless of the media outlet used, direct response marketing usually has for primary parts. This first is the strongly promoted offer. Here, the seller lets the potential customer know about the product and what it does. Next, he lists all of the great aspects and features of the product, pointing out how it is unique or superior to similar products. Near the end, there is a call to action, which is usually something like "don't miss out, call now" or "supplies are limited, so call now." Finally, a means for ordering the product is provided, such as a toll free phone number or a website with a shopping cart.

The Media Used

While some direct marketing is still done via older print methods, this approach is most often seen on television. One method is the short 30-second commercial that quickly uses all of the techniques listed above. However, because of the rushed way the products in these commercials are presented (with the clich? of the repetitiously repeated toll free number at the end) they sometimes annoy customers more than interesting them in the product.

Many businesses will instead turn to infomercials. Infomercials are 30-minute presentations given in timeslots the company purchases on local (and sometimes on cable) channels to sell their product or products. This gives the company the chance to approach the sales pitch at a slightly more leisurely pace. Often, these infomercials are designed to seem like a regular informational television program in which the presenters just happen to be reviewing the seller's product.

Another outlet for this type of marketing is the Internet. In this case, dynamic ads, ads made to look like polls and other approaches can provide links to websites where the sales pitch can be delivered and the product sold. In the future, as social media networking sites continue to grow in size, number and influence, this may become one of the primary means for marketing directly to customers.

Personalities

For the television presentations, either the commercials or the infomercials, a key feature is that they must have a dynamic and interesting presenter. This person must draw the audience into the information he is presenting about the product. There are several ways the presenter might approach the sales pitch.

He might try to seem very excited about it to transfer that excitement to the viewer. For certain items, such as foods or food cooking products, he might try to impart with his words and facial expressions how wonderful the food is. Many of these presenters will host more than one "show," and become well know personalities based on this.

Patients 'baffled' by jargon say researchers

Patient information leaflets for cancer trials are not up to the job, reveals a new study from the University of Leicester.

Research published in the international journal Sociology of Health and Illness reveals that patients find the leaflets far too long and incomprehensible, and even intimidating.

"These information sheets are poorly aligned with patients' information needs and how they really make decisions about whether to join a cancer trial," said author Professor Mary Dixon-Woods, Professor of Medical Sociology at the University of Leicester Department of Health Sciences.

"Some patients did find them very useful, but many others paid them little attention. They preferred to rely on discussions they had with their doctor to make up their minds."

The study aimed to unravel the mystery of why cancer trial information sheets are so hard to get right. Conducted as a collaboration between the Departments of Health Sciences and Cancer Studies at the University of Leicester, it traced what happened in 13 cancer trials. It looked at information sheets from the time they were prepared by the researchers leading the trials, through being reviewed and approved by research ethics committees. The study interviewed 26 patients who were approached to take part in trials and were given the information sheets.

"We found that research ethics committee examine information sheets very carefully. They are genuinely keen to make sure that patients are not misled in any way and that the information sheets are easy to read. They very often ask researchers to make changes to make sure they are suitable," said author Dr Natalie Armstrong, Lecturer in Social Science Applied to Health.

"The problem is that information sheets are trying to do too many things. They end up having many of the features of a legal contract. Patients often find them far too long and incomprehensible, and even intimidating. In fact, many patients believed that the information sheets weren't really produced for their benefit at all, but were more about researchers and institutions 'covering their backs'".

One patient in the study said: "There was a lot of jargon that didn't really necessarily need to be in there. I think that there was a lot of information that sort of baffled you."

There are things that could be done to improve cancer trial information sheets, the study concludes.

"Rather than using standardised templates, it might be better to have a list of principles that could be used when writing information sheets. It could also be valuable to involve patients themselves in helping to write and review them," commented Dr Armstrong. "But we also have to accept that patients may continue to make their decisions about taking part in trials based on trust in their doctor, no matter how well written the information sheets are. We need to find ways to support doctors when recruiting to trials."

###

The Health Research Authority (HRA), which helped fund the study, welcomed the work. Commenting that it offered new insights into the consent process and role of the participant information sheet, Hugh Davies, HRA Ethics Advisor said: "The HRA recognises the evident dissatisfaction around participant information sheets. It is currently rewriting guidance that will focus on key principles rather than proscriptive instruction. It will work with public, patients, researchers and others involved in regulation and governance of research to look at all aspects of seeking consent, beyond the written information provided. We will support our work with evidence and consensus (where it exists) from the fields of research, ethics and decision making. "

Email Marketing: Affordable Internet Marketing Solution | Web ...

Internet Marketing

E-mail marketing after reading aweber review is labeled as a killer system when it comes down to effective inexpensive Web marketing endeavors . This is down to the fact that it?s the most widely-used and has the best reputation in bringing carefully targeted traffic to web sites. It is used to stay in contact with your customers or prospective shoppers, send out invites, or make specials as an element of an internet marketing solution today.

It?s as easy as writing an e-mail that may be in a form of a newsletter or a plain announcement, and sending that to as many targeted recipients as possible. However, there?s an ideal way of going about it. Email marketing is not just about writing any email that you will be sending to anybody. To clarify that, here are some simple tips in doing email marketing the best way possible.

Join a campaign that can turn off your possible customers.

Email marketing is not at any rate equivalent to spamming. You aren?t meant to send info that your email list will not have any valuable use for as an element of your online campaign and internet marketing techniques.

Make your email list open it.

Your email might get lost together with the hundreds of emails that inbox owners are confronted with everyday. Improve your subject line by using extra white space creatively, adding text symbols, starting each word with a capital letter, asking compelling questions, not making any unbelievable claims, and not using the word FREE.

Keep it real.

Excluding any too fantastic to be true statements is not only applicable to your subject line. Your email content must never embody any guarantee your SEO company business can?t keep. Make your offer genuinely of worth to your receivers.

Don?t go too low.

If you inform your customers concerning deductions , minimal kickbacks aren?t that effective compared to significant concessions. But never offer reductions that are lower than your profit. It?ll defeat the point of this email selling effort using reliable internet marketing solution.

Make it eventful.

It?s not about contradicting the advice that you should keep an email short and sweet. This tip is on including seminars, conferences and other events in your email. Businesses that require training benefit much from this method. With these RSVP-requiring emails, repetition is important. Just make sure that an ample interval is considered before sending out a reminder email.

Post news.

Sending newsletters and postcards provides helpful information for your customers. These are the best forms of reaching out to your clients or prospects. You should keep the information short, straightforward and direct to the point for this attainment to be effective.

With these simple ways of going about your email marketing endeavor, your business will prosper in no time using internet marketing solution today.

Sarah Hull: Battling for Birds After the BP Oil Spill

The oil-slicked seabirds have flown off to bluer oceans, but the padded pool used to recuperate them remains, a thoughtful placeholder should they need to return.

De-gunking feathers is all in a day's work for Ralph Heath. Earlier this month, settlement terms were reached for 2010's Deepwater Horizon oil spill. As director of the country's largest wild bird hospital, the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, Heath's facility was the primary caregiver of Northern Gannets, large, golden-domed seabirds, during the calamity. The sanctuary, located in Indian Shores, Florida, treated 100 gannets, of which 98 survived and were released. Eight of his employees were also sent to the scene of the action, the northern Gulf Coast, to nurse oily pelicans back to health.

The coated gannets required special treatment. Heath says, "gannets are subject to having problems with their feet, because they do not come to shore very often. They're a difficult bird to recuperate." To get them back in shape, the injured fowl repaired to the sanctuary.

Heath notes, "we had to be real careful and put soft materials along the pond so that it did not braise the bottom of their feet, because their feet can get infections and sores."

Each gannet needed its fluffy feathers to be hand-washed free of oil. The seabirds' digestive systems were also flushed out with feeding tubes, as swallowed oil can be fatal to birdlife. As Heath tells is, "the bird's first instinct is to preen the oil off using its bill. And when they do that, they swallow a portion of the oil, which can be very damaging to their digestive system."

Within six months, all of the surviving gannets were free-flying and oil-free.

While the gannets rested up, Heath said that BP paid for their facilities and each individual bird under his care.

Heath was lukewarm about the oil giant's recent announcement of the $7.8 billion settlement to those affected by the disaster. "From what I hear, there were a whole lot of people that haven't been fully compensated."

In the spill aftermath, Heath says,

they did a pretty good job as far as having the rehabilitators clean up. The problem is, many birds died offshore that couldn't be rescued. One afternoon, we had a call from a fisherman that was about 40 or 50 miles south of where the oil was born out of New Orleans. And he had come across about 300 pelicans out there all covered in oil, all dying. And the only thing we could do was report his location to the Coast Guard. But I know darn good well, no one went out there.

He added, "I'm one hundred percent certain that more birds died than anyone tallied."

Heath is no stranger to avian calamity. Touring the sanctuary, he points out a Great Blue Heron which had been left at the sanctuary's after-hours pen and raised from "the size of a teacup." She's now four feet in height. Heath speaks to the proud, lanky seabird in the affectionate tone one might use to pacify a toddler. "Hey, Blue Girl," he coos. The sanctuary sees 10,000 sick or injured birds annually.

On a recent evening, a huge heron approached Heath outside his home, located on the sanctuary's property. Heath put his arm around the bird, only to discover a large hole in its back, the flesh pulled out by fishhook. Heath says, "I had nothing, my staff wasn't here. I carried the bird up to my house, and spread him across my whole washer and dryer." Heath was direct with the bird. "I said, Bird, it's just me and you, you gotta lay still while I work on you. And that bird laid still." The heron lived to tell the tale.

Heath's love of wildlife developed at an early age. His father, a surgeon by trade, was often called upon by neighborhood kids to patch up injured animals. Heath says fondly of his father, "he could put you back together from the top of your head to the bottom of your toe."

Hurt creatures were kept in a box until Heath came home so his father could demonstrate how to stitch them up. One time, the two took a tumor off a goldfish. Another day, the duo operated on a snake that had swallowed a wooden egg. Both animals survived.

Since establishing the sanctuary in 1971, Heath, who is 65 years old and sports curly brown hair, has had his share of remarkable rescues. One time, a wealthy North Carolina woman chartered a jet just to deliver him a tern. As Heath tells it "two well-dressed, uniformed pilots came off the plane with a little box. And they said, 'our job is to fly this bird down to you, hand it to you and turn back.'" The bird's benefactor had done her homework - the pilots said she wanted Heath to treat the hurt seabird, "no ifs, ands, or buts!"

One tern was delivered by skydivers. Concerned for the injured creature, the divers, who hailed from Florida's eastern coast, jumped off their plane - tern in tow - and successfully landed near the sanctuary. Laughs Heath, "that bird had a heck of a ride!"

Perhaps the most remarkable story is that of the egret which survived a car collision, only to be imprisoned inside the offending vehicle and driven all the way to Boston, Massachusetts. Found by a Boston mechanic, it was brought to a rehab center unable to sustain the bird's appetite for fish. Over the phone Heath was told, "you're never going to believe this, but this bird got a free trip all the way up from Orlando to Boston."

Heath says, "we have no idea how it survived. It didn't have any food because it was trapped in some metal near the radiator."

Heath sought to give the resilient traveler a first-class return. When a wealthy attorney friend offered the use of his Learjet, Heath flew up and escorted the bird back in the lawyer's private plane. Says Heath, "we later released him. That's what you call a bird that has nine lives."

Nowadays, the sanctuary is just as busy as ever, with 600 to 800 birds consistently inhabiting its alfresco beachfront pens. There are over 30 staff members, and more than 100 volunteers. Six hundred pounds of fish are disbursed daily. Visitors can expect to spy 45 bird species, from lowly park pigeons to owls, herons, egrets and pelicans. The latter, a symbol of Gulf Coast beaches, is perhaps the sanctuary's most famous tenant. In 1975, the sanctuary had the honor of hatching the world's first captivity-born Eastern Brown Pelican. Says Heath, "the scientific community said that Brown Pelicans would never breed in captivity, but they forgot to ask the birds." He told one disbelieving scientist, "look, if you had this nice protected environment down here out in the sun, wouldn't you want to have sex?" Since 1975, over 1,000 pelicans have hatched onsite.

On a recent visit, the sanctuary teemed with birdlife. Pens were alive with birds of all stripes that squawked, preened and ogled. Overhead, tree branches were filled with nests and twittering fowl. Unfettered by cages, these birds just stuck around because they liked the neighborhood. Human walking paths were shared with wandering pelicans. Staff member sweatshirts read "I'm for the birds."

There's no admission fee to enter the sanctuary. Heath laughingly says it's "about the only tourist attraction that is free in Florida." Later, he becomes more philosophical. "I'm really quite proud of the price," he says, "because the birds belong to everyone."

Mali coup leader says ex-president 'is safe'

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) ? Drunk soldiers looted Mali's presidential palace hours after they declared a coup on Thursday, suspending the constitution and dissolving the institutions of one of the few established democracies in this troubled corner of Africa.

The whereabouts of the country's 63-year-old president Amadou Toumani Toure, who was just one month away from stepping down after a decade in office, could not be confirmed.

The soldier heading the group of putschists gave an interview on state television late Thursday, saying that Toure is "doing well and is safe." Capt. Amadou Haya Sanogo refused to say where the ousted leader is being kept, and did not make clear if they are holding him.

The U.N. Security Council issued a statement denouncing the coup, calling for the safety and security of the president, and for the troops to return to barracks, and for the restoration of democracy.

The scene in this normally serene capital was unsettling to those proud of Mali's history as one of the few mature democracies in the region. Soldiers smelling of alcohol ripped flat-screen TVs, computer monitors, printers and photocopiers out of the presidential palace, carting them off in plain sight. Others in pickup trucks zoomed across the broad avenues, holding beer bottles in one hand and firing automatic weapons with the other.

The mutineers said they were overthrowing the government because of its mishandling of an ethnic Tuareg insurgency in the country's north that began in January. Tens of thousands of Malian civilians have been forced to flee. The soldiers sent to fight the separatists have been killed in large numbers, often after being sent to the battlefield with inadequate arms and food supplies, prompting fierce criticism of the government.

The coup began Wednesday, after young recruits mutinied at a military camp near the capital. The rioting spread to a garrison thousands of miles (kilometers) away in the strategic northern town of Gao.

Troops had surrounded the state television station in Bamako. At dawn on Thursday, some 20 soldiers huddled behind a table, facing the camera. They introduced themselves as the National Committee for the Reestablishment of Democracy and the Restoration of the State, known by its French acronym, CNRDR.

"The CNRDR representing all the elements of the armed forces, defensive forces and security forces has decided to assume its responsibilities and end the incompetent and disavowed regime of Amadou Toumani Toure," they said, reading from a statement. "The objective of the CNRDR does not in any way aim to confiscate power, and we solemnly swear to return power to a democratically elected president as soon as national unity and territorial integrity are established."

The soldiers said they intended to hand over power to an elected government, though they made no mention of the fact that elections were supposed to be held on April 29. More than a dozen candidates were expected to run. Toure was not in the race, as he has already served the maximum two terms.

Criticism of the coup was swift. France is suspending all government cooperation with Mali, except for aid. In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said officials were meeting to discuss whether to cut off the $137 million in annual U.S. assistance.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he "strongly condemned" the military takeover and "called on those responsible to refrain from any actions that could increase violence and further destabilize the country."

And the body representing countries in the region, the Economic Community of West African States, called the coup "reprehensible."

The coup is a major setback for Mali, a landlocked nation of 15.4 million which is dirt-poor but fiercely proud of its democratic credentials. The current president, a former parachutist in the army, came to power himself in a 1991 coup. He surprised the world when he handed power to civilians, becoming known as "The Soldier of Democracy." A decade later, he won the 2002 election and was re-elected in 2007. There was never any question that Toure ? known by his initials ATT ? would step down at the end of his term next month.

"The situation is grave for our democracy and our republican institutions," said Ali Nouhoum Diallo, the former president of Mali's National Assembly. "We cannot approve the seizing of power through force."

The last statement from the presidency came via Twitter from the government's official account. Late Wednesday, they said: "This is not a coup. It's just a mutiny."

But as the sound of heavy weapons rang out, the emboldened soldiers encircled the palace. Contacted by telephone, an officer at the palace who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press said that the president's bodyguards had failed to fight the renegade soldiers when they burst in. They searched the grounds but could not find Toure, and there were conflicting reports Thursday about where he might be hiding.

The mutinous soldiers imposed a nationwide curfew, warning people to stay off the streets until further notice. A flight headed to Bamako was forced to U-turn in the air after the borders were closed. At noon, soldiers were still riding on scooters and in pickup trucks shooting in the air, and local media was reporting casualties from stray bullets.

At midday Thursday, coup spokesman Lt. Amadou Konare ordered soldiers to stop randomly shooting. He also asked that public employees return to work next Tuesday, saying any unjustified absences would be considered an abandonment of service.

"We ask our civilian compatriots to stay calm at home and we ask our comrades in uniform who have not yet joined the CNRDR to do so without delay," said Konare, reading a communique on state television.

In recent years, the U.S. military has been helping train Malian troops in counterterrorism tactics to fight al-Qaida-linked militants who have established bases in Mali's northern desert, the same area that is now beset by a Tuareg uprising. Ironically one of the military camps where they held their trainings was the Kati garrison, the place where the mutiny started Wednesday.

The Tuaregs, a traditionally nomadic people spread across the Sahara Desert, have risen up against the central government in Mali several times since the country's independence from France in 1960.

The newest rebellion launched in mid-January broke years of relative peace, and has been fueled by the return of Tuaregs from Libya who had fought in Moammar Gadhafi's army. Tens of thousands of refugees have spilled over into four of the countries neighboring Mali due to the uprising.

The U.N.'s head of political affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe, briefed the U.N. Security Council on Thursday evening and afterward was asked if the Mali coup was related to the Taureg rebellion, and past Taureg alliances in Libya, where they had helped prop up Moammar Gadhafi's regime.

"Of course there is a relationship," Pascoe said, "Because many of the Tauregs, a sizable number, had gone to Libya because there they could earn more money working in the military and other areas. They were welcomed by the Gadhafi regime."

Pascoe estimated that 1,500 to 2,000 Tuaregs had returned to Mali after the overthrow of Gadhafi.

"Some of them were actually quite high-ranking people in the Libyan army," he added.

"They clearly added much more firepower and drive to this operation, which made it very difficult for the Malian army to deal with it," Pascoe said. "From their statements, that added to their frustration and their anger, because they feel they hadn't been supported enough."

Many feelings you will experience will be totally normal, and they are the same things that all people go through. If you never make any mistakes at all, then we tend to believe you are not doing enough to stretch and grow. All you need to do aside from pay attention and learn is make it far enough so you become more capable. Our recommendations are never passed along to you untried or not proven, and so you can continue reading with utmost confidence.

Creating your own products is said to be the best way of generating a profitable online income. Affiliate marketers, and those who make their own products, no that there are good and bad components of either business model. However, if you want complete control over your business, creating your own product is the best way to do this. Plus you are automatically more unique and can distinguish yourself much easier with your own products. This article will show you several ways to create products on your own efficiently and effectively.

There are literally millions of products to be found on the net, and they exist in all formats and markets. This is where you will be able to do research when trying to figure out what to do for your own product. Make very sure they are in markets that buy online, and then look at what you can do to make that product better. Digital products are going to be the easiest to create using this strategy, however that does not mean physical products are out of the question. If you see a product on the market, just find a way to improve it and make your own. You should also find out exactly what your audience is looking for prior to making the product. Not everyone sees things the same way -what one person might see as a plus, someone else might see as a minus. Not everyone has the same goals or even the same amount of time to put into internet marketing. With product creation, you?re 100 percent responsible every step of the way, from market research to promotion. You might see this as a wonderful thing, as you?re the boss and don?t have to seek anyone?s approval for anything. But some people just prefer to avoid all of that and want to minimize the total amount of effort. Only you can decide if creating products is the right approach for you.

We are willing to bet that if you took a poll asking how many web marketers run real optimization tests, the percentage would be shockingly low. Talk to people in a good business forum for IM where Criminal Minds season 7 episode 18 is discussed, and you will find there are tons of ways to apply the principle of testing. Not having any knowledge of what can be done with testing is not anyone?s fault, and so unfortunately a lot is being missed.

It is all too easy to have a sense of excitement early on and want to get things going, but that can cause you to overlook small but important details. So regardless of your approach, if you are reckless or whatever, you will just have to learn at your own pace. Even if you have never done testing before in your business, just going through the process several times will make you much more confident.

You will obviously need traffic for testing anything, and so with a site-based test just choose those pages that receive the greatest amount of traffic. Obviously, some type of script that will record test results will be needed. One really cool part about having your own products or services is you have more opportunities to make money. In this case, you can do joint ventures with other businesses which is something you cannot do as an affiliate. You shouldn?t take this as a hard and fast rule, though, as some affiliates with a proven track record can indeed find JV partners. Most affiliates, however, aren?t so fortunate, whereas it?s much easier to get into this type of venture as a product creator. Joint ventures are always open to someone with a product that fills a need in the marketplace. As you build your reputation, you?ll find that people will actually seek you out to do JVs.

In conclusion, you need to always pursue your dreams, and also have an open mind that is expecting to see solutions to challenges that you are facing right now. It is actually quite easy to create products and promote them using the social media avenues we have today. Even if the first ten products bomb for some reason, that does not matter. You will be getting smarter, and you will get a hit sooner than you think.

Can you see any positive applications in your existing marketing? We will be very hard pressed to ever believe a business cannot take an additional technique and make it work for them. Those who lose that fire in the belly are often the ones who get caught flat-footed when something major happens. This is a lot of common sense, but still there are people who do not take this seriously about having multiple marketing streams happening. Probably due to hype copywriting, but so many people fall for the lure to use any kind of approach like South Park season 16 episode 2, for example, and they want it to run on its own, etc. The competition is always working to grab your market share, and you never know when or if your one trick marketing pony could become obsolete the next day.
